CINDY SHEEHAN
JUAN TORRES
TIFFANY BURNS
AMY BRANHAM
Sheehan, Torres, Burns and other peace activists interrupted a news conference as Congress member Rahm Emanuel was speaking Wednesday. They shouted “De-escalate! Investigate! Troops home now!” [Video] Today, they dropped two banners in the Senate’s Hart Building.

Sheehan, Torres and Branham are members of Gold Star Families for Peace; Burns is a spokesperson for the group. Sheehan said today: “We’re working to make sure that Congress listens to the majority of Americans who want us to get out of Iraq. This is a nonpartisan issue and the entire government needs to be held accountable.”

DAVID LINDORFF
Co-author of the book The Case for Impeachment: The Legal Argument for Removing President George W. Bush from Office, Lindorff said today: “People who oppose impeachment sometimes say they don’t want to see a constitutional crisis — but the crisis is here. Most recently, Bush is saying that his signing statements give him the inherent authority to open our mail without a warrant — a blatant violation of the very bill he was signing into law. Members of Congress are today pledging to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.’ But if they fail to initiate impeachment hearings, they are violating that very oath. From the war on Iraq to possible war with Iran to violations of the FISA statute, Bush has shown contempt for the law, and impeachment needs to be on the table — the Constitution demands it.”
