Al Jazeera reports: “Two activists from a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla have been presented before an Israeli court days after they were abducted following their detention with 175 other campaigners by Israel in international waters near Greece.” The flotilla coalition states: “On 2 May 2026, four new vessels launched from Siracusa [in Sicily], determined not to give in to Israel’s violence and brutality.”

Wanner is an award winning South African writer currently in Rio de Janeiro. Her latest book is Flotilla: A Journey of Conscience about her participation in the Gaza flotilla last year. She is now on the South African steering committee of the flotilla effort.
She co-wrote the piece “Why we are sailing to Gaza on the Global Sumud Flotilla” last September for Al Jazeera and was abducted by the Israeli military with other flotilla members in October. Also in October of 2025, Trump announced the Gaza “ceasefire” deal. AntiWar.com reports that Israel just killed a 15-year-old boy and the Gaza Health Ministry said that since the so-called ceasefire deal in early October, the Israeli military has killed at least 830 Palestinians, and 2,342 have been wounded.
