Edmonds is a former FBI translator. The Boston Globe recently reported: “Sifting through old classified materials in the days after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, FBI translator Sibel Edmonds said, she made an alarming discovery: Intercepts relevant to the terrorist plot, including references to skyscrapers, had been overlooked because they were badly translated into English…. Edmonds said she made another troubling discovery: One of her colleagues admitted being a member of an organization with ties to the Middle East that was a target of an FBI investigation.”

Rose is executive director of the ACLU of Massachusetts. Murray is director of the group’s Bill of Rights Education Project. They are fighting against restrictions on freedom of expression during the Democratic convention. They note government officials are attempting to, among other things, confine protesters to a pen. The group is also organizing tours of Boston focusing on landmarks associated with freedoms now under assault.

DAVID SAPIENZA, SEAN DONAHUE
The Boston Social Forum, a gathering of analysts and activists from around the world featuring talks and workshops, will take place from July 23 to 25 at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Sapienza and Donahue are media coordinators for the Forum and can arrange interviews with speakers on a wide variety of issues.

SALIM MUWAKKIL
Barack Obama, a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Illinois, will deliver the keynote speech at the Democratic convention on Tuesday night. Muwakkil, a senior editor of In These Times and a columnist for the Chicago Tribune, has covered his career. Muwakkil is also currently a fellow at the Open Society Institute focusing on the impact of ex-inmates and gang leaders in leadership positions in the black community.
