Journalist Lindsey Snell reports: “Turkey has repeatedly pretended to cut trade with Israel, but trade never actually stopped. It’s not just the [Azerbaijani] oil [that] Turkey shuttles along. It’s steel, concrete, and more.” See similar report from journalist Matt Kennard.

Jereski is a New York City-based attorney who has led CODEPINK’s World Court Project which has been urging concrete actions by various governments for over a year. The group is organizing protests outside the Turkish and EU missions to the UN today.
The group states: “We demand an end to the EU establishment’s INACTION as it mouths pieties of ‘serious concerns’ about Israel’s targeting of journalist and first responders, its systematic destruction of homes and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and cemeteries, and its starving and mass murdering of Palestinians.”
The group has written a series of letters to various missions for over a year. In May, they wrote to the Turkish mission: “The Government of the Republic of Türkiye surely knows that condemnation alone would not stop Israel’s repeated breaches of International Humanitarian Law. And, in fact, President Erdogan, Türkiye’s leader, has issued full-throated condemnation of Israel’s acts which have, predictably, failed to stop Israel’s lawlessness. Systematic destruction of the conditions of life in Gaza and the West Bank is underway and Türkiye knows this.
“The Republic of Türkiye must take action for an immediate ceasefire and urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, by immediately imposing unilateral economic sanctions on Israel, beginning with an immediate withholding of oil. Why has the Government of Türkiye not done this yet?”
