ROBERT JERESKI, [email protected]
Jereski is a New York City-based attorney who has been featured on many IPA news releases.
Jereski states that “the U.S. government has worked to subvert international law and we need to bring an end to Israel’s impunity.”
He notes that while the U.S. is trying to legitimize Israeli control of more of Gaza, the UN Uniting for Peace resolution of Sept. 18, 2024 “Demands that Israel brings to an end without delay its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory … and do so no later than 12 months from the adoption of the present resolution.”
The resolution, backed by 124 countries, also states: “Israel is under an obligation to cease immediately all new settlement activities, and to evacuate all settlers from the Occupied Palestinian Territory,”
Jereski notes: “It’s outrageous that the U.S. and Israeli governments are continuing to talk about ‘voluntary’ migration of Palestinians in Gaza to other countries. Many of the Palestinians in Gaza do have a right to go to their original homes inside what is now Israel under UN resolution 194.” He notes the ICJ today reiterated that the Geneva Conventions apply to the occupied territories — and forced transfer of population from occupied territories violates the Geneva Conventions.
He added: “In addition, on the West Bank, there is a housing stock that needs to be vacated. The illegal settlers should be removed. People from Gaza if need be can live there.” There are a reported 700,000 illegal Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
