A coalition of organizations is launching a campaign this week with constituent emails to Democratic senators and a mobile billboard circling the U.S. Capitol to pressure Chuck Schumer to step aside as Senate minority leader.
The electronic billboard, circulating around the Capitol throughout Tuesday and Wednesday, reads: “Chuck Schumer has failed to provide real leadership against a war-crazed Trump administration” and “Chuck Schumer: Step Aside as Minority Leader.”
Groups participating in the campaign include RootsAction, World BEYOND War, Just Foreign Policy, Veterans For Peace, and Peace Action.
A poll released on Monday, conducted by Data for Progress, found that Schumer is notably unpopular with New York State voters.
RootsAction political director Sam Rosenthal said: “Senator Schumer has consistently shown that he is out of step with the wants and needs of the Democratic base. Worse than that, he has actively impeded progress on some of the most pressing issues — ending arms sales to Israel, defunding our forever wars, and implementing progressive economic policies that benefit the working class.” See action alert the groups are using.
