Rep. John Larson has just filed articles of impeachment against Trump, which state: “Mr. Trump has unconstitutionally initiated war as a belligerent or co-belligerent against Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, Nigeria, and Gaza. He has threatened military force against Panama, Colombia, Cuba, and Greenland. In all of these endeavors, President Trump has acted without constitutionally required congressional authorization.”
A symposium on impeaching Trump is now being held at the Rayburn House Office Building Wednesday and is being livestreamed by C-SPAN and The Real News.
Former representative Dennis Kucinich, one of the panelists, noted that Trump threatened to destroy a civilization: “How high of a bar do we have to have for impeachment? … Trump is a walking, talking impeachment machine.”
The symposium is organized by Ralph Nader. Other confirmed speakers include: constitutional lawyer and scholar Bruce Fein, Doug Bandow (Cato Institute), Rob Weissman (Co-President, Public Citizen), Jack Rakove (Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and professor), Alan Morrison (Associate Dean, George Washington University Law School), Jeffrey Sterling (CIA whistleblower and author), Mark Green (former New York City Public Advocate), and others.
A statement on the event notes: “Panel discussions will lay a firm legal and constitutional foundation for potential future impeachment proceedings, including preliminary ‘shadow hearings’ examining standards and precedent.”
