U.S. taxpayers will “take to the streets in cities and towns across the country on April 15 ‘Tax Day’ to protest the use of their tax dollars to finance illegal wars, genocide, state violence and oppression,” the group Taxpayers Against Genocide said in a news release.

The aftermath of the Democratic National Committee’s semiannual meeting that adjourned on Saturday has included extensive criticism for leaving unchallenged the U.S. government’s support for Israel and other policies clearly opposed by most registered Democrats.

The National Priorities Project (NPP) at the Institute for Policy Studies released their annual Tax Receipt, revealing that the “average taxpayer contributed $4,049 to militarism and its support systems––including war and the Pentagon, veterans’ programs, and mass deportations and border militarization… [the] analysis found that Americans’ tax dollars only paid for $2,492 for Medicaid.”  Available for interviews: LINDSAY KOSHGARIAN; [email protected]     Koshgarian is the Program Director of the National Priorities Project.  For NPP, Koshgarian said: “Our tax receipt shows why so many people in this country are struggling. Members of the Democratic National Committee are gathering in New Orleans on Thursday for a three-day meeting, while national polling shows a huge gap between the views of registered Democrats and the party’s leadership on U.S. support for Israel.

“What makes this moment so troubling is not just the scale of the conflict, but how it grew out of years of distorted debate, where Iran was reduced to simplistic, fear-driven narratives and serious warnings were brushed aside.”

“The UN Security Council will consider another outrageous resolution [Friday], this time drafted by Bahrain (the current UNSC President and a US-Israel ally). A month into the U.S.-Israel unlawful aggression on Iran, the draft is entirely silent on the aggression, its perpetrators, and on ending the attacks, and instead seeks to expand the conflict by authorizing military force against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and even in Iranian territorial waters.”

As the Democratic National Committee, the governing body of the Democratic Party, prepares to convene its semiannual meeting on April 9 in New Orleans, activists are pushing to bring the party into line with the views of registered Democrats on Israel. The DNC Resolutions Committee will meet to consider 32 proposed resolutions, including seven resolutions on Israel and Palestine.
