Executive director of the Institute for Southern Studies, Kromm is currently in New Orleans and posting on the group’s “Facing South” blog.

He said today: “Gustav exposes how vulnerable the Gulf Coast still is three years after Katrina, from the levees to coastal land loss. Even if this one didn’t cause as widespread devastation, people are more vulnerable than they should be.”

Kromm and Sturgis co-authored “Blueprint for Gulf Renewal” as well as several other reports the Institute has produced the last three years on the Gulf Coast.

National coordinator for the Katrina Information Network, Young just returned to D.C. from New Orleans. She said today: “We shouldn’t think that New Orleans is back to normal; especially the poorer parts of the city are in desperate need of help.”
