CNN reports: “Nine out of Gaza doctor’s 10 children killed in Israeli airstrike.” AP reports: “Israeli use of human shields in Gaza was systematic, soldiers and former detainees tell the AP.” Middle East Eye reports: “Israel bombs Gaza aid guards as they are attacked by looters.”
AntiWar.com reports: “The Israeli military expects that it will occupy 75 percent of Gaza’s territory within two months and plans to ‘concentrate” the entire civilian population into three small areas in the Strip. … Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already made clear that Israel’s goal was the full military occupation of Gaza and the ethnic cleansing of the territory, which he calls the ‘Trump plan,’ although it’s unclear where the Palestinian population could go.” Palestine Chronicle reports: “11-Year-Old Yaqeen Hammad: Gaza’s Youngest Media Activist Killed in Israeli Airstrike.”
Veterans For Peace released the statement “Veterans Reflect On The Meaning Of Memorial Day.”
Among the members of the group participating in a 40-day fast in front of the U.S. mission to the United Nations in New York City are:
PHIL TOTTENHAM, [email protected]
Tottenham is a Marine Corps veteran. He said today: “It is inconvenient and fatiguing, but clean water is everywhere — we don’t have to walk and stand in line for hours to see if it’s available. We sleep securely at night without fearing a missile will incinerate us. In comparison, the pain and tension blanketing every soul in Gaza must be paralyzing. And then … it’s unimaginable to have children, whose lives depend on you, slowly starve while the water they drink makes them sicker.”
MIKE FERNER, [email protected]
Ferner is a past national director of Veterans For Peace. See the news release launching the fast last week. He said today: “Here, our caloric intake is limited to 250 per day, an amount reported months ago as the average available to people in Gaza. Check your pantry to see examples of 250 calories. …
“We so desperately hope that the minor inconvenience and temporary hunger of this fast will” reach and move “large numbers of people that as human beings they simply must see” the reality of the situation “and then act. … No one is going to stop this madness but us.”
KATHY KELLY, [email protected], @voiceinwild
Other fasters include Kelly, board president of World BEYOND War. She said today: “Hind Rajab, a Palestinian child from Gaza, would have turned seven years old this month. On the day of her death, January 29, 2024, workers at the Red Crescent switchboard assured her, by phone, that help was coming, rescuers were on their way. The two rescuers were very near when the Israeli military attacked their ambulance with a U.S. tank-fired missile. Hind was never rescued. Forensic experts say 335 bullets were fired into the car Hind and her family were in. Like Hind, many thousands of babies, children, their parents and family members are desperate for humanitarian relief, clean water, shelter, and protection from the U.S.-enabled killing spree which constitutes a genocide against Palestinians.”
